Why Is Jihad Important in Islam According To Quran?

Reclaim the occupied Land by committing Jihad in the name of Allah.

Allah mentioned in Quran:

Surah Al Baqarah verse no: 191

Kill them wherever you come upon them and drive them out of the places from which they have driven you out. For persecution is far worse than killing. And do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they attack you there. If they do so, then fight them—that is the reward of the disbelievers.

In Islam, the concept of reclaiming occupied land is generally understood in the context of self-defense and the right to protect one's homeland. Islam teaches the importance of justice, peace, and the preservation of human life.

This verse is often quoted in discussions about self-defense and the permissibility of fighting in Islam. The verse refers to a specific historical context during the time of early Islam when Muslims faced persecution and were expelled from their homes in Makkah. It provides guidance to the early Muslim community on how to respond to aggression and defend themselves.

The Power of Assistance: Islam's Emphasis on Helping the Needy:

Allah mentioned in the Quran

Surah An Nisa Verse No: 75

English translation Dr Mustafa Khattab (The Clear Quran)

And what is it with you? You do not fight in the cause of Allah and for oppressed men, women, and children who cry out, “Our Lord! Deliver us from this land of oppressors! Appoint for us a saviour; appoint for us a helper—all by Your grace.”

This verse highlights the importance of fighting in the cause of Allah and standing up for the oppressed, regardless of their gender or age. It emphasizes the duty of Muslims to defend and support those who are suffering from injustice, tyranny, and oppression.

The verse encourages Muslims to respond to the pleas of the oppressed, who seek protection and assistance from Allah. It highlights the need to combat oppression and to work towards establishing justice and protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals, including men, women, and children.

Retaliation in Islam: The Concept of Equitable Justice

Allah mentioned in The Quran:

Surah Al Baqarah Verse No 178

English translation Dr Mustafa Khattab (The Clear Quran)

O believers! ˹The law of˺ retaliation is set for you in cases of murder—a free man for a free man, a slave for a slave, and a female for a female. But if the offender is pardoned by the victim’s guardian, then blood-money should be decided fairly and payment should be made courteously. This is a concession and a mercy from your Lord. But whoever transgresses after that will suffer a painful punishment.

This verse discusses the principle of legal retribution (Qisas) in cases of murder or unlawful killing. It outlines the principle that when someone is unlawfully killed, the punishment for the perpetrator should be equal to the harm inflicted. It emphasizes that the punishment should be proportionate to the crime committed.

Additionally, the verse serves as a reminder that transgressing the limits of justice and taking matters into one's own hands will result in severe punishment.

Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day

Allah mentioned in the Quran:

Surah At Tauba verse no 29:

English translation Dr Mustafa Khattab (The Clear Quran)

Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, nor comply with what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, nor embrace the religion of truth from among those who were given the Scripture, until they pay the tax, willingly submitting, fully humbled.

The verse specifically refers to non-Muslims who do not believe in Allah or the Last Day, do not consider as unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful, and do not follow the religion of truth. It suggests that there can be a confrontation with such individuals until they agree to pay the jizyah (a tax) willingly and submit to the authority of the Muslim state while being in a state of submission.

It emphasizes the importance of self-defense and fighting against those who actively reject Islam and seek to harm Muslims.

Fight the champions of disbelief

Allah mentioned in the Quran

Surah At Tauba Verse No 12:

English translation Dr Mustafa Khattab (The Clear Quran)

But if they break their oaths after making a pledge and attack your faith, then fight the champions of disbelief—who never honour their oaths—so perhaps they will desist.

This verse is often interpreted as a directive to fight against the leaders or those who actively oppose the Islamic faith after breaking their oaths or treaties. It emphasizes the need to defend the religion from those who defame or attack it.

Fight in the cause of Allah:

Allah mentioned in The Quran

Surah Al Baqarah Verse No:190

English translation Dr Mustafa Khattab (The Clear Quran)

Fight in the cause of Allah ˹only˺ against those who wage war against you, but do not exceed the limits. Allah does not like transgressors.

This verse is often understood as a command to engage in defensive warfare in the cause of Allah against those who initiate aggression or fight against Muslims.

It emphasizes the principle of self-defense and the prohibition of transgressing the boundaries of warfare. Muslims are instructed to fight only in response to aggression and to uphold the values of justice and moderation in combat.

Fight against them until there is no more Persecution (Fitna):

Allah mentioned in the Quran:

Surah Al Baqarah Verse No 193

English translation Dr Mustafa Khattab (The Clear Quran)

Fight against them ˹if they persecute you˺ until there is no more persecution, and ˹your˺ devotion will be to Allah ˹alone˺. If they stop ˹persecuting you˺, let there be no hostility except against the aggressors.

This verse is often understood as an instruction to fight against those who oppose or persecute Muslims until there is no more disbelief or resistance against the religion of Islam. The aim is to establish the supremacy of Allah's religion and ensure that it is the dominant faith.

Devotion Unveiled: A Journey of Wholehearted Dedication to Allah

Allah mentioned in the Quran:

Surah Al Anfal Verse No 39:

English translation Dr Mustafa Khattab (The Clear Quran)

Fight against them until there is no more persecution—and ˹your˺ devotion will be entirely to Allah. But if they desist, then surely Allah is All-Seeing of what they do.

This verse is often interpreted as a call to engage in combat against those who oppose or persecute Muslims until disbelief is eradicated and the worship of Allah becomes predominant.

However, it also emphasizes the principle of ceasing hostilities if the opposing party stops fighting. The verse further highlights that aggression is only permissible in self-defense against those who unjustly oppress or attack Muslims.
